A Parent's Guide to Social Networking
The Internet is a great place to meet new friends, play games and learn things. It can also be a place where predators have free access to your children. This Parent's Guide to Social Networking will help you learn what the dangers to your child are and what you can do to keep your kids safe online.
This parent's guide is full of great tips to help ensure that your children know what the dangers of the Internet are. One such tip is "Warn your kids about the dangers of flirting with strangers online". You need to tell them. They really don't know anything unless you tell them first. Explain to them what flirting means and what it can lead to. Then tell them about how dangerous it can be.
It's hard to talk to kids under 14 about things like this, but if they're going to be out in the real world or online with strangers, then they need to know.
Another great tip listed in this parent's guide, and something you may not have though of before, is "Check site privacy policies". You don't want your child signing up for a site only to have that site sell your child's email address to a bunch of spammers or porn sites.
Read through this list with your child. Explain every item on the list to your child one by one. Do it over a course of days if it's too much for one sitting, but do it.
